Survivor Skills

As you know, I’ve been working in the mental health field for about 2 years now and it is always fun to think about new therapeutic skills I can do with my kiddies while providing counselling services.  I thought this activity below was cute and I wanted to share it with you!  The activity is called “Let’s make a Pizza.”  This activity below will help students practice following directions.  Kids get to make a pizza and are required to listen to the adult’s directions by calling off “Add 10 pepperonis to the pizza and 8 sausages or whatever is called out.” This activity will benefit the child to practice active listening and following direction the first time given.  I will probably add more to this activity when I am in  a skills session in order to make it more realistic and helpful for the parent/teacher.   An example: Cheese means clean your room.. Pepperoni means put your name on your hw!  All are examples of directions that kiddos need to practice in order to make permanent

Feel free to take this activity and make it your own! Some people use felt instead of construction paperJ
